Ptolemaic Settlements
Following the conquest of the Achaemenid Empire by the Macedonians the territory of Egypt passed into Macedonian control. However, upon the sudden and untimely death of Alexander his successors known as the diadochi initiated a series of wars known as the Wars of the Diadochi which carved his massive empire into a series of separate states.
The former Achaemenid satrapy of Egypt would be taken over by Ptolemy I Soter who established the Ptolemaic Kingdom and began the Ptolemaic Dynasty of Egypt which would go on to include famous people such as Cleopatra VII and her affairs with Julius Caesar and the Roman Republic. The Ptolemies were prolific builders and established many unique Ptolemaic settlements throughout their territory.
