Prophthasia in Drangiana

Background

Prophthasia in Drangiana was formerly the capital of the satrapy of Drangiana named Phrada. The city was renamed by Alexander the Great in October of 330 BC during his Persian Campaign to conquer the remaining satrapies of the Achaemenid Empire. The name Prophthasia can be translated into "anticipation". The city is presently known as Farah (Farâh) in modern Afghanistan.
