Roman Empire

Background

The growth and establishment of the Roman Empire out of the Roman Republic effectively ended the Hellenistic Period and paved the way for Roman hegemony of the Mediterranean. During this time the Greek influenced kingdoms in the eastern most satrapies would continue to flourish independently while the Romans themselves engaged in a superpower rivalry with the Sassanin Persian Empire.
